What is organic food?
Until the development of modern methods of mass food production, utilizing mechanization and artificial pesticides, there was no distinction between organic and conventional food. Organic farming began in the 1920s, but the real development of organic food production occurred in the second half of the 20th century.
Organic farming is defined as a comprehensive system of sustainable farming that, through the use of natural means of production and the protection of natural resources, activates natural mechanisms. This ensures that organic food is safe and of high biological quality, and production ensures continued soil fertility and the health of plants and animals.
Organic food is also called organic food or biological food and is abbreviated as "bio" or "eco." This refers to a processed product (made of several ingredients) that contains at least 95% of its ingredients by weight from organic farming (water and salt are not included). Unprocessed organic food must be 100% compliant.

The green "Euroleaf" on the packaging guarantees customers compliance with EU requirements. Beneath the "Euroleaf" is the certification body's identification number.
In Poland, certificates are issued by certification bodies authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. They monitor producers in accordance with EU regulations. A full list of entities is available on the Ministry's website.

Producers aren't always able to meet all EU requirements or are limited by financial constraints, especially in less affluent countries.
