Tea is the second most popular beverage in the world, after water. It is consumed worldwide and comes in many varieties. The most popular is black tea, which accounts for over 90% of global tea consumption. This is a heavily processed tea whose leaves turn black.
Organic black tea is a beverage made from the dried and fermented leaves of the Camellia sinensis shrub. The infusion is dark chocolate in color and characterized by an intense, slightly bitter flavor. Dried tea leaves can be brewed several times, achieving a distinctive flavor and aroma.
How is organic black tea made and who produces it?
Black tea grows in warm regions of Asia and Africa. Harvested leaves wither, then undergo full fermentation and drying. Compared to green or red tea, black tea ferments for a longer period of time. This results in a more pronounced flavor and aroma. Furthermore, it retains its flavor and aroma much longer.
Currently, approximately 6.5 million tons of tea are produced worldwide each year. The clear leader in production is China, home to the Camellia sinensis . India comes next, accounting for approximately 60% of global demand. Tea is also grown in significant quantities in Kenya, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Turkey.
Properties of organic black tea
Organic black tea boasts several health benefits. Thanks to its numerous antioxidants, it helps eliminate free radicals, slows the aging process, and regulates blood cholesterol levels. This can help prevent the development of numerous diseases, including cancer, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and heart attacks.
Black tea's properties also include a mildly stimulating effect, thanks to its theine content. This substance is chemically identical to caffeine. It helps combat fatigue, improves concentration, and boosts energy.
If you're looking for a boost, you might want to consider organic black tea as an alternative to organic coffee and yerba mate . It's also worth remembering that too much caffeine has negative effects. It can cause feelings of anxiety and distraction, insomnia, headaches, heart rhythm disturbances, and physical dependence.
Black tea infusion itself contains no calories, making it a suitable daily beverage for a weight-loss diet. Additionally, caffeine gently enhances fat burning processes, providing energy for more intense physical activity and improving thermogenesis and circulation in fatty tissues.
A cup of tasty organic black tea is also recommended for indigestion and stomach pain. It helps digest a heavy meal by stimulating the secretion of digestive juices and protecting the gastric mucosa. Each tea also has a mild diuretic effect, which helps cleanse the kidneys and urinary tract.
Types of black tea
All types of tea are made from the leaves of the Black tea bush. Therefore, black tea is distinguished primarily by its origin and degree of fermentation. Climate, soil, sunlight, harvest time, drying and fermentation techniques—these are the factors that cause tea to differ in taste and aroma.
Popular types of black tea include:
- Assam tea - growing in the state of Assam in northeastern India;
- Darjeeling tea - grown in the Darjeeling province in northeastern India. It is distinguished by the much lighter color of the infusion;
- Yunnan tea - growing in the Yunnan province, in the southeastern part of China;
- Ceylon tea – grown on the island of Ceylon, on which the country of Sri Lanka is located. This is a high-quality, fully fermented black tea;
- Earl Grey tea - a Ceylon tea with the addition of bergamot oil
- English Breakfast tea - a blend of Assam and Ceylon teas, stimulating at breakfast.
How to brew black tea?
Simply pour boiling water over the tea leaves. Steeping for 2-3 minutes will have a more stimulating effect, while steeping for about 5 minutes will have a more relaxing effect. Black tea can be enjoyed with milk, sugar , natural fruit syrup , or plain – according to your preference.
This is the most basic method. The tradition of drinking tea dates back thousands of years, and during this period, many customs and rituals related to brewing and drinking tea have developed. Differences arise in the amount of leaves and water, brewing time, and the utensils and ingredients used.
