Common eyebright – a plant from wild meadows
Common eyebright, also known as eyebright, bird's eye, or milk thief, is a plant found in moist and waterlogged areas throughout Europe. It belongs to semi-parasitic plants – it draws water and minerals from the roots of neighboring plants, which is why it is not cultivated but harvested from wild meadows.
Application of eyebright herb
In the tradition of folk herbalism, eyebright herb was used both internally as an infusion for drinking and externally – for cleansing and compresses around the eyes. Eyebright infusion is sometimes used as part of daily eye care, especially for feelings of fatigue or irritation accompanying long hours of computer work.
Eyebright herb contains, among others, glycosidic iridoids (aucubin, euphroside, iroroside, catalpol), flavonoids, tannins, lignans, phytosterols, phenolic acids, and essential oils.
Usage notes
It is recommended to observe the body's reaction and discontinue the use of the infusion if adverse symptoms occur. People with diabetes who plan to drink eyebright infusion should be cautious – this plant may lower blood sugar levels.
