Urtekram is a Danish brand that produces natural and organic cosmetics . It was founded in Copenhagen in 1972. It sold organic spices and skincare products from a small basement shop in the city center. Growing demand led the company to expand, and since 1989, it has been manufacturing its products in Mariager, Jutland, Denmark. Cosmetics production requires energy and raw materials and generates waste. The production facility uses 100% renewable energy to produce electricity, heating, and cooling. Energy from wind farms, photovoltaics, and biogas is used. Urtekram strives to minimize waste, and any waste that does arise is recycled.
Urtekram cosmetics packaging is also becoming increasingly eco-friendly . The material is made from a plant-based raw material – sugarcane waste from the food industry. This makes the packaging more environmentally friendly and recyclable. The paper packaging is FSC certified, ensuring that the wood was harvested in a manner that does not harm forests or the animals that live there. Raw materials harvested according to FSC principles do not harm the forest ecosystem.
